WORKING AT HEIGHT REGULATIONS
COURSE 830: 1 DAY
This course is designed to provide candidates with an understanding of the Working at Height Regulations 2005. Upon completion of this course, candidates will be capable of meeting the legal requirements for employee competence for working at height.
PARTICIPANTS
The course is essential for anyone involved in maintenance or the supervision of maintenance where there is a risk of injury from trips and falls.
COURSE PRESENTATION
This course is presented throughout by reference to real-life situations and practical demonstrations of fall-arrest devices, along with in-depth discussions with regard to the Regulations and the associated safety equipment. A multiple-choice assessment paper is used to check that the candidates have understood the key teaching points. Incorrectly answered questions are re-examined by the instructor/ assessor, to ensure that all the candidates have achieved the course objectives.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
On completion of the course, participants will be able to
- Understand the importance of the Regulations and state the difference between absolute and non-absolute Regulations
- Specify how ‘work at height’ is defined and understand that the rules apply even if working below ground level
- State to whom the rules apply
- Identify the responsibilities of the employer and employee
- Understand what is meant by Duty holders’ responsibilities
- State how environmental conditions impact on the Regulations
- Select the correct equipment, temporary structures and safety features
- Understand the need for regular maintenance and record-keeping
- Carry out regular and detailed inspections of equipment
- Evaluate fragile surfaces and carry out risk assessments
- State the necessary precautions needed to prevent the risk of falling objects.
