COURSE 800
1 DAY
MANUAL HANDLING
FOR MAINTENANCE PERSONNEL
The high incidence of back-related injuries causes many lost days of work and can produce long-term health problems in many workers. Maintenance workers are particularly exposed to this hazard, as they are often required to lift heavy items like motors and gearboxes. Due to production downtime pressures they often do not assess the dangers of lifting these items by themselves or they use incorrect lifting methods. This course provides participants with all the knowledge necessary to recognize the safe limits of what can be lifted and how heavy items should be lifted.
PARTICIPANTS
Ideally suited to all maintenance personnel who are required to lift or move heavy objects.
COURSE PRESENTATION
Participants are shown how the weight of typical objects will alter the way in which they should be lifted and stored. During the course, each participant is required to demonstrate their ability to lift and carry simulated weights using correct methods.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
On completion of the course, participants will be able to
- understand the requirements of the manual handling regulations
- recognize the health and safety implications of incorrectly lifting heavy objects
- recognize the anatomical / physiological damage caused by incorrectly lifting heavy objects
- specify the limits of weight for various objects at various heights
- lift heavy objects using correct methods.
Successful completion of the course leads to the award of Amicus / Technical Training Solutions competence certificate 800: Manual handling for maintenance personnel.
