BUILDING REGULATIONS FOR ELECTRICIANS
COURSE 360: 1 DAY
In addition to having appropriate technical qualifications (such as City & Guilds 2382 and 2391) Qualified Supervisors are required to show an awareness of all parts of the Building Regulations as far as they apply to electrical work. This requires that the health and safety of persons, structure of buildings, fire safety, conservation of fuel and power, and access and facilities for disabled people are addressed. They are responsible for demonstrating that the applicable parts of the Regulations have been complied with, and that correct procedures have been followed.
PARTICIPANTS
Persons with, or working towards Qualified supervisor status. Electricians involved in new-build or refurbishment of commercial or domestic premises.
COURSE PRESENTATION
The course consists of varied activities, including working in groups examining practical problems and solutions, focusing on the problems that occur where different trades are involved. Reference to applicable parts of the Building Regulations is made, while the course notes provide a useful reference to the material covered.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
The course is designed to provide participants with the knowledge and ability to identify technical and safety issues outside their electrical expertise, so that they do not create hazards to people in or around the site, or within the structure and fabric of the building.
On completion of the course, participants will understand:
- The legal status of the Building Regulations
- The status of the Qualified Supervisor / Manager and Competent Person
- The health and safety requirements of the Regulations
- General requirements of the Building Regulation Approved Documents
- How the installation of electrical devices may compromise:
Fire Safety
Structural integrity
Fuel and energy efficiency
Access and facilities for disabled people - The specific requirements of Part P of the Regulations – Electrical Safety
- Situations where the requirements cannot be fulfilled.
Successful completion of the course leads to the award of Amicus / Technical Training
